Maybe some of you are wondering how do we manage to drive such long distances being only two people aboard, and even worse, knowing each other for 8 years now. Well, one extraordinary thing is that we still have something to say to each other but even though there is always a little help from our friend, the music.

Before starting our trip we loaded up the laptop with hundreds of songs. Like a melting pot, we brought along all the styles of music we like: from flamenco to blues, from heavy metal to Austrian folk. During the trip some songs have turned into our favorites for different reasons and so have become parts of the journey.

I know some of you use e-mule or relatives (pssshhhhhhtttttt!!!!!) so it shouldn’t be difficult to download some of them and listen them while having a look at this blog.

This is our list (in alphabetical order) and the reasons why we like the tunes.

Quizás alguno de vosotros se ha preguntado alguna vez cómo nos las apañamos para conducir distancias tan largas siendo sólo dos a bordo e incluso peor, conociéndonos el uno al otro ya 8 años. Bueno, una cosa extraordinaria es que todavía tenemos algo que decirnos el uno al otro, pero incluso así, siempre recurrimos a la ayuda de ese amigo que es la música.

Antes de empezar el viaje cargamos el portátil con cientos de canciones. Como un crisol, nos hemos traído todos los estilos de música que nos gustan: desde flamenco a blues , desde heavy metal a música popular austriaca. Durante este tiempo algunas canciones se han convertido en nuestras favoritas por diferentes razones y ahora son ya parte del viaje.

Sé que algunos de vosotros usáis e-mule y similares (psssshhhhhhtttt!!) así que no debería ser problema el descargarse alguna de ellas y escucharlas mientras echáis un vistazo al blog.

Esta es la lista, en orden alfabético, y las razones de por qué nos gustan estas canciones.

Attwenger – kalender -> It should be the official Australian anthem. The lyric says: I had a look at the calendar and today it’s going to be windy. Actually this happens 90% of the year in Australia, everywhere. Well, it’s sung in Austrian but who knows the lyrics of the real anthem anyway?

Debería ser el himno oficial australiano. La letra dice: he mirado en el calendario y pone que hoy va a soplar el viento. La verdad es que esto sucede el 90% del año en Australia, por todas partes. Bueno, está cantada en austriaco, pero de todos modos, quién sabe la letra del himno original?

Balao Magico – Superfantástico -> It’s a kind of metaphor of our trip: to have a “superfantastic” travel.

Es una especie de metáfora de nuestro viaje: tener una experiencia “superfantástica”.
Camaron – Volando voy  We are traveling only 80km/hour but this song is our turbo boost.

Sólo vamos a 80km/hora, pero esta canción es nuestra turbo-inyección.

Carlinhos Brown – El tonto simon -> We like it because the language sounds like Spanish pronounced with Austrian dialect. We didn’t know that studying Brazilian would be so easy. :-)

Nos gusta porque suena como una especie de español pronunciado con acento austriaco. No sabíamos que estudiar brasileño fuera a ser tan fácil!

Cazuza - A burguesia fede -> For us it was a must to choose this song for two reasons: the title and the angelical way of singing.

Tuvimos que incluirla por dos rezones, por el título y por el modo angelical de cantar.

Chico Cesar - Mama Africa -> That was love at first sight. Apart from enjoying the music we spent hours trying to translate the lyrics.

Esta fue amor a primera escucha. A parte de disfrutar con la música, nos pasamos horas tratando de descifrar las letras.

Demonois da Garoa - Trem das onze -> Our first Brazilian lesson.

Nuestra primera lección de brasileño.

Exkrementes - Soy el mas hebiii -> We have seen this band live and we still remember how comical they were. Here they parody the heavy metal world and funny enough it’s the only heavy metal song Katja likes.

Hemos visto a esta banda en vivo y aún recordamos lo graciosos que eran. Aquí parodian al típico heavy y mira tú por donde es la una canción heavy que le gusta a Katja.

Juan Perro - Charla del pescado -> Very appropriate for our new hobby, fishing, which by the way, turned out to be a disaster, so we can also say that we are “at the other side” (at the fish’s side).

Muy apropiada para nuestra nueva aficción, la pesca, la cual, por cierto a terminado en desastre, así que también podemos decir que estamos “al otro lado” (en el lado del pescado).

Leño - Donde está la salvación.mp3 -> It brings us memories. During Felix’ last birthday party two of our friends (let’s call them Mister Smith and Mister Doe) had, while being terribly drunk, a philosophical chat (well, more or less, you know) because of this song. And the best is that everything has been recorded! (and of course, it’s now in a security box in Switzerland).

Nos trae recuerdos. En la última fiesta de cumpleaños dos de nuestros amigos (los llamaremos Hernández y Fernández) tuvieron, estando bastante ebrios, una charla filosófica (bueno, más o menos, ya os podéis imaginar) a tenor de esta canción. Lo mejor es que está todo grabado (y por supuesto, en una cámara de seguridad en Suiza).

Magic System - Bulle bulle -> Ideal to make long boring driving sessions short. Like they say: If you are not going to dance, who is then?

Ideal para hacer cortas largas sesiones de conducción. Como ellos dicen: Si tú no bailas, quién va a bailar?

Pata negra - Pasa la vida -> We are holding this song for the moment we arrive in Sydney and the life will become serious again.

La estamos reservando para cuando lleguemos a Sydney y la vida se vuelva seria otra vez.

Paul McCartney - Vanilla Sky -> Honestly it’s here because we LOVE the way the ex-Beatle says “Vanilla”.

La verdad es que está aquí porque nos ENCANTA la manera en la que el ex-Beatle dice “Vainilla”.

Raffaella carra - Que Dolor -> What can we say about this story of a woman who comes home and finds another woman hidden in a wardrobe? No worries, Manolita’s cupboard is too small.

Qué podemos decir sobre esta historia de una mujer que vuelve a casa y se encuentra a otra mujer dentro de un armario?. Pues que tranquilos, que el armarito de la Manolita es muy pequeño.

Rolf Zukowski - Mein Platz im Auto ist hinten -> Every trip needs a silly song. Apart from that, it helped Claudio to improved his German vocabulary, which was, so far, „I mog Kaiserschmarrn“.

Cada viaje necesita su canción tonta. Además, ayudó a Claudio a mejorar su vocabulario alemán, el cual hasta el momento era: „I mog Kaiserschmarrn“

Skyscraper - Awaken Night -> To awake our bored legs we try to imitate the double bass rhythm of the drummer, who is nobody least than our friend Claudio.

Para despertar nuestras aburridas piernas nos gusta imitar el ritmo del doble bombo del batería, que no es otro que nuestro amigo Claudio.

Steely Dan - Reelin In The Years -> Maybe that’s what we are doing “reeling in the years” (whatever that means).

Quizás se un poco lo que estamos haciendo nosotros, “enrollándonos en los años” (sea lo que signifique).

(Unknown artist) - Te compro tu novia -> Hilarious lyrics, if you don’t take it seriously. Katja could be as well the perfect girlfriend, especially when the singer sings: “and she manages to get everything right without getting nervous”, ha ha ha…

Una letra muy graciosa si no te la tomas en serio. También Katja podría ser la novia perfecta, sobre todo cuando el cantante dice: “y todo lo resuelve tranquilaaaaaa!”, je je je!

Van Morrison – My brown-eyed girl -> In Tasmania we made a 80km cycle challenge and afterwards there was a BBQand local band playing covers. Everytime we listen to this song we remember the 5 sausages we ate for free (Katja’s personal record).

En Tasmania hicimos una marcha ciclista de 80 Km y luego hubo una barbacoa y una banda local tocó versiones. Cada vez que escuchamos esta canción nos acordamos de los cinco perritos calientes que nos zampamos gratis (record personal de Katja hasta la fecha).

Zamarra -El canto del ruiseñor -> This song makes Felix terribly nostalgic. It’s performed by his brother, the poem was written by his grand uncle and it always reminds him of his hometown.

Con esta canción a Félix le entra la morriña. La interpreta su hermano, la letra es un poema escrito por su su tío abuela y siempre le trae a la mente sus tierras veratas.
